Random Emotional Setback

When I go through a break up I find the best possible way to deal is to avoid avoid avoid. If he drinks uptown I'm heading down. If we frequent the same gym I'm purchasing a tread mill. If he's Coles I'm Woolworths. If hes's Tesco I'm Sainsburys. There's no Ross and Rachel "lets hang out" scenarios here. You get the idea.

In saying so, I didn't cope so well when London Fashion Week decided to come to town. It was like my past reared its not so ugly head and I just wasn't ready for it. I wasn't wearing my best “run into your ex outfit” and I still hadn't lost that extra 3kgs that apparently reminds him of what he's missing out on.

I'd broken up with London a good 6 weeks ago. I'd been through the process. I'd cried, I'd packed my things, I'd had the painful goodbyes and will I ever see you again moments. I was over officially him. However, just when my new city and I were about to move onto the “not just a rebound but significant relationship” stage, LFW had to turn up looking better than he'd ever done before (how do they always manage to do that?). He took me by surprise. I just wasn't prepared for his grand return so soon. Everything looked so nice and shiny, like the new improved version. So edgy, trendsetting and of course so very British.

To cope with this return of the ex situation; I did what every red blooded, once heart broken female would have done. I splurged on an unnecessary item (tights in this case – I'm on a budget). Called my girlfriends for emergency happy hour cocktails. Drowned my sorrows and bored my support group with “why did I leave him again?” style questions. At least I didn't cut my hair.

I was worried there for a second! I'm glad its only the city that broke your heart, and not a boy.

I've never had to leave a city I love. My only advise is to what I do when I get dumped: TELL EVERYONE ABOUT IT! Every sordid deatil about how crap he was. He snored? He was a mummy's boy? tell people.

It's a shitty thing to do, but I promise you'll feel better.

It's funny how the old cliche really is true: just broken ups ALWAYS seem to get haircuts.

I hope you and London are just on a break ;)

poor thing, i'm sorry that happened to you. i've always been fortunate enough to live in different cities than my exes, but i can only imagine how hard it would be. glad you have good friends to help you out!

Oooo grey ribbed tights. Love, love, love. I've been wearing mine to death recently

I'm the same exact way. After a break up I can't talk or see the guy or I'll never get over him. Unfortunately that eliminates any chances for friendship as well.

Breakups are terribly hard and ugly, but stay strong!! On the bright side, the photo of your tights and shoes is AMAZING. I want, want, want! :P

Love the grey ribbed tights, very yummy! Especially paired with those shoes.

As for the ex country, I can't say much. I was so pleased to leave mine and move to oz that I never go back or miss it!

I LOVE YOUR WRITING.

In two years I'm going to be exclusive with London, and I don't think I'll ever want to break up with something like him!!

Great blog!

I'm pretty sure the nice new tights paired with those oh-so-delicious shoes and coctails in good company did the trick?

(I btw have only one ex that is really painful for me to run into and, strange as it is, we only meet when I actually happen to look really really good. Phew! When it comes to cities I've never really broken up for good, I'm kind of into these long distnace things :)

Ah the tights are the best bet, it's grey and miserable here, not shiny and new, the photos they lie!

Oh darling, London is a heart breaker isn't it?
I was so depressed for a good 6 months after I came home. But I've been back twice since, and am going again so don't fret, it won't be the last time your stars align.
Funny you bought tights for a cold climate when we're going into summer...

Cocktails cure all! Haircuts not so much. And whatever you do, don't dye your hair just to spite your ex. I learnt the hard way :\
